A Community Christmas

This Christmas, The Basement Project, a homeless charity based in Bromsgrove, teamed up with PureGym Bromsgrove to bring some festive cheer to the children supported by the charity. This collaboration, driven by community spirit, aimed to give every child a gift this Christmas by  reaching out to Puregym’s members to leave anonymous gifts.

The Basement Project is a charity set up to offer vital support to the children and young people of families facing homelessness, offering guidance and hope. Their help is essential year round, but can have a huge impact during the winter months. Recognising the emotional tension that Christmas can add to struggling families, they’re doing what they can to make sure that every child gets a gift this Christmas.

Assistant manager, Amie Hutchins at the gym’s Bromsgrove branch said, “We have absolutely been blown away with the generosity of our members, we placed gift tags on our Christmas tree which stated the age, gender and gift for each child. Within a few days all the gifts had been taken and they soon started flowing back in!

“They’ve sent us over photos of the children receiving their presents at the Christmas grotto and we were so happy to see all the little smiles on their faces!”

Kelly, communications manager for the charity, said “The amount of presents PureGym collected was amazing, and it meant that every child that came to our Christmas grotto received a Christmas present.

“Being able to provide these vulnerable families with Christmas gifts has meant local young children have been able to open a present from Father Christmas this year.”

Another personal trainer working at the local branch said “We’ve had so many gifts from the members which has just been amazing!”

PureGym Bromsgrove staff delivered the gifts the week before Christmas Day, and the presents were given to the families across Bromsgrove at a Christmas grotto set up by the charity, spreading a little bit of Christmas cheer and reminding us that community is everything.
